Hold the baby over your ‘non-pouched’ shoulder and spread the fabric apart with your other hand; and lower the baby’s feet into the pouch. The baby’s bottom should be positioned over the seam to take full advantage of the shape of the pouch.

Slide the baby into the pouch so that their bottom is on the seam and lay their head into the pouch near your chest. Make sure that both sides of the pouch are spread evenly on either side of the baby so that it ‘snuggles’ around the baby and safely holds them. Newborn babies will tend to curl in a semi-foetal position. For babies that wish to look out, or if they seem ‘lost’ down in the pouch, fold or tuck the section of the pouch that is covering your upper arm underneath the section on top of your shoulder.
